The fumes consist of water vapor and gases, such as carbon dioxide (CO<g id=\"gid_2\">2<\/g>) and other volcanic gases like hydrochloric acid, hydrofluoric acid, sulfur dioxide (e.g., HCl, HF, SO<g id=\"gid_3\">2<\/g>) and\/or hydrothermal gases like hydrogen sulfide and methane (e.g., H<g id=\"gid_4\">2<\/g>S, CH<g id=\"gid_5\">4<\/g>). Fumaroles can be present in <strong>active volcanic areas<\/strong> and <strong>inactive areas<\/strong>, and it is possible to find sulfur deposits with intense yellowish colorations in these zones.
